Smart Canada kicked off its Smart City Project Tour in Victoria last week to show off the Smart Fortwo Electric and the facelifted 2013 Smart Fortwo.

The tour moved from Victoria to Vancouver and will wrap up after nine stops total, in Toronto on Sept. 30. Smart Canada is offering a special promotion to anyone who picks up a Smart of their own during the tour -- a $500 gas card, which they say will cover about four months' worth of fuel based on Transport Canada's estimates.

The Smart City Project Tour has promised to plant a tree for every test drive. The cross-country trek is also designed to raise awareness about the Smart City Project, launched at the end of May to inspire urbanites to share ideas that will improve their environments and make their communities more functional and beautiful. Anyone who shares an idea will be eligible for a $50,000 grant to help bring their plan to life, as well as a nifty new Smart eBike.

Specific dates and test drive information can be found at www.thesmart.ca.
