Subaru rally for the kids

Subaru Canada announced it will participate in Rally for the Kids at the annual Targa Newfoundland, which this year starts Sept. 8 in St. John's.

For the third year in a row, Mike Davenport of Davenport Subaru in Orillia, Ont., will take on Jon Howard of Capital Subaru in St. John's, with the goal of raising money for The Rally for the Kids Challenge. Last year, the challenge raised more than $60,000 for charities in Ontario and Newfoundland; this year, proceeds will support Ronald McDonald House Toronto and Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador. Subaru Canada will match funds up to $30,000 nationally.

The manufacturer also donated a vehicle to RMH Toronto for use by families of seriously ill children during their House stay; it also sponsors a bedroom in at RMH Toronto. Subaru Canada has invited its dealer network nationwide to participate by raising funds that will support the RMH nearest their dealerships.

Ronald McDOnald Houses are independently operated and rely on active contributions from donors. RMH provides more than 10,000 families of seriously ill children with a safe, comfortable place to stay very near the hospital where their child is undergoing medical treatment.

The Challenge has already raised more than $50,000.
