Toyota is recalling about 838,000 Sienna minivans to address a problem with the power sliding doors that could cause the to slide open while the vehicle is in motion.
The recall applies to Siennas from model years 2011 through 2016, with about 90,000 vehicles in Canada, 744,000 in the US, and the remaining ones (roughly 4,000) are in South Korea and Taiwan.
The issue arises from the possibility of the power door’s power movement being impeded, which could cause the motor to overload and open the fuse. If this were to happen and the door latch were in an unlatched position, the door could slide open while the vehicle is moving.
The company says it will notify vehicle owners by mid-January, as it is still trying to find a fix for the problem.
Owners can check if their vehicles are affected by the recall (or any other vehicle in another recall) by contacting Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331 or by checking VINs at www.toyota.com/recall or NHTSA’s safercar.gov/vin.
