The future of car purchasing may end up being a smartphone transaction, if the 40-minute sell-off of the latest Volvo S60 Plug-In is any indication.
In all fairness, the 20 people who lapped up the special edition S60 T8 Polestar Engineered sedan didn’t really purchase the car yet; they’ve only put down $500 deposits.
The transactions were carried out via Volvo’s Care by Volvo mobile app — a medium through which Volvo customers can subscribe for new vehicles (as an alternative to buying or leasing) for a monthly fee that includes all the expenses associated with car ownership (car payment, insurance, maintenance and some wear and tear) — with customers claiming the 20 cars allotted to North America in 39 minutes.
Pricing for the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered starts at $1,100 per month, with the special edition S60 getting upgrades to suspension and brakes, to go along with the 415-hp enhancement to the electrified 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder engine (standard 400 hp).
Responding to the demand for the US-built S60 T8 Polestar Engineered, Volvo Cars offered Polestar Engine Software Optimization upgrade to the first 200 Care by Volvo S60 T6 AWD R-Design subscribers. The upgrade improves throttle response, transmission shift speed and gear holding, and midrange engine performance.
