VW offers Atlas test-booking through Amazon

Amazon Prime Now members will have access to limited 60-minute tests

2018 Volkswagen Atlas

Volkswagen is making it easier for potential customers to test drive the new 2018 Atlas sport utility vehicle by offering bookings through Amazon.

The VW Atlas Prime Now Test Drive Program has several restrictions attached, with the most prominent one being that customers be in the Chicago and Los Angeles areas. And, it’s only available over two successive weekends — Sept. 22 to 24, and Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

Still, Amazon Prime members in those restricted zip codes will have a chance at a limited number of convenient, home-based 60-minute test drives in an Atlas SEL Premium.

“We are very excited to work with Amazon to introduce more consumers to our newly-launched, 7-seater SUV through this unique test drive experience,” said Greg Tebbutt, Senior Director, Transformation, Strategy and Communications for Volkswagen of America. “We know people have limited time and are always looking for convenient ways to test out a new product, and with the Amazon Prime Now service we are able to bring the all-new Atlas to customers’ doorstep.”

Through Amazon Prime Now, interested members will be able to book the test drive, with the vehicle delivered to a desired location. Members outside those areas will still be able to participate, but will be redirected to VW.com to book their test drive. As with many online and mobile app ventures, participants will be encouraged to rate the service, as well as the vehicle.

“We continue to innovate new ways to give time back to customers through our ultra-fast delivery service, Prime Now,” said Stephenie Landry, vice president of Amazon Prime Now worldwide. “We are thrilled to offer Prime members the chance to experience the all-new Atlas through the convenient delivery of a test drive directly to your door.”

The top of the line SEL Premium is powered by Volkswagen’s VR6 engine — the venerable 3.6-litre narrow-angle V-6 — with power distributed to all four wheels through VW’s 4Motion system, and in the US, comes with a 6-year/72,000-mile transferable warranty.

The equipment list includes 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, power folding door mirrors with puddle lamps, parking assist, area view camera, automatic high-beam control and LED taillights. Inside there is leather seating with heated/ventilated seats up front and heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, 480-watt 12-speaker Fender audio system and navigation, the latter two controlled through a 12.3-inch touch screen that can be configured to owner’s likes.
