Toyota, Mazda and Ford took top honours among mainstream brands in the fifth annual ‘Vincentric Best Value in Canada’ awards announced this week. BMW and Volvo earned top luxury brand awards.
The best brand values in major segments were:
Passenger Car: Mazda
Luxury Car: BMW
SUVs, Crossovers & Vans: Toyota
Luxury SUVs & Crossovers: Volvo
Trucks: Ford
Toyota led the way in individual segment awards with six winning vehicles, plus two more for its Lexus luxury brand. Mazda and Honda each claimed four segment awards, while Ford’s F-Series pickups swept all three awards for full-size pickups.
The awards were based on analysis of the total cost of ownership using eight different cost factors: depreciation, fees & taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs.
Using a statistical model, Vincentric, a Michigan-based automotive data compilation and analysis firm, identified the winners as those with lower than expected ownership costs for their market segment and price.
The top-ranked models in 33 individual categories were:
