The latest development in tires – the all-weather tire – has come to the light truck world. Unlike all-season tires, which are not suitable for cold conditions, all-weather tires are developed, tested and certified for winter.

And now you can get one for your full-sized pickups or SUVs. Yokohama’s Geolander A/T G015, went on sale in North America on April 1 in a size range that covers 96% of the market for today’s pick-ups and SUVs.

The latest addition to the Geolander line, the innovative all-terrain tire has been engineered to improve traction on any surface at any temperature, regardless of weather conditions, according to Yokohama. It meets the Rubber Manufacturers Association’s ‘severe snow service’ criterion and is stamped with the three-peaked mountain/snowflake symbol.

Yokohama says the G015’s all-season traction is attributable to its exclusive orange oil compound and advanced tread design. The triple polymer compound of the treads combines Silica and Orange Oil to deliver longer service and higher traction.

It has four wide longitudinal grooves for excellent drainage to combat hydroplaning and deliver better wet braking performance. Large tread blocks provide better stability at highway speeds and enhance handling while better controlling road noise. The company says stability is enhanced by “Optimized Lug Grooves” working in tandem with “Variable Angled Lateral Grooves”.

The tread blocks are kept stable by 3-D shaped sipes, and that stability reduces tread wear. The sidewalls are designed to ward off cuts and abrasions while improving off-road grip.
