Auto industry puts “Black” in Black Friday
Black Friday has acquired a reputation as a day of bargains, as retailers gear up for the Christmas gift-buying rush, and though some dealerships may jump on the Black Friday sales bandwagon for the day, week or even month, the industry as a whole promotes the elegant hue year-round, as evidenced in these 12 “black” editions.

The treatment proved so popular on Bentley’s Continental GT (where 30% of cars were ordered with it) that the company added the blacked-out exterior trim to the third-generation Flying Spur, right down to the retractable Flying B hood ornament.

The Bentley Blackline treatment is applied to grille vanes and meshes, light bezels (front and rear), door handles, window surrounds, 21-inch tri-spoke alloy wheels, lower side and rear bumper blades, and exhaust tips, with body paint available in up to 30 choices.

Limited to a production run of 900, the Blackline Special Edition includes standard F-Sport wheels, finished off in black vapour chrome, black chrome grille-surround and black mirror housings, adorning Obsidian, Ultra White or Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 exterior paint treatments.

Other cues include an inversion of the bodywork’s RR badges (here presented silver on black), darkened chrome on the front grille surround (though the vertical slats remain chrome, simply reflecting the black around them), side finishers, unique 22-inch polished black forged alloy wheels (showing high-gloss red calipers), decklid trim and handle, lower air inlet finisher and exhaust tips.

Mitsubishi unveiled the Black Edition across its lineup, with models standing out in their respective lineups with the combination of 18-inch alloy wheels painted black, bold black exterior and interior details, and signature Black Edition badges.

Painted up in Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, White Frost Tricoat, Dark Sky Metallic or Smokey Quartz Metallic, the Acadia Black Edition features 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with black accents, black grille insert and black surround, black headlamp and taillamp details, black mirror caps, roof rails and other exterior accents.

GMC Terrain Black Edition
The Terrain Black Edition includes 19-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, darkened grille insert with black surround, black mirror caps, roof rails and exterior model and trim badging. Exterior paint is a choice of Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, Graphite Grey Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic or Sedona Metallic.

Maserati Levante with Nerissimo package
Back in 2018, Maserati created a Nerissimo (Italian for very black) package meant to embody the mysterious excitement of city nights, while enhancing the sportiness of the company’s lineup, including the Levante SUV, Ghibli executive sport sedan and the flagship Quattroporte.

The Nerissimo package included Nero (black) exterior paint accented with black chrome trim pieces on the grille upper bezel and trident badge, trunk, side air vents, Maserati badges on the C-pillar, and the Maserati logo, nomenclature and script on the rear deck, as well as black trim accents on window surrounds, exhaust tips and grille vertical pieces.

Nissan Note Black Edition
In 2016, Nissan created a Black Edition for its Note hatchback (Versa Note in North America), with a Pearl Black or Storm White Pearlescent exterior with lowered front, rear and sides, and accented with blacked out trim pieces such as door handles, mirror housings, headlight bezels and a high rear spoiler. It was finished off with blackened 16-inch alloy wheels and blacked-out B and C pillars.

Nissan Note Black Edition
The interior featured gloss black trim on the centre console, black gear shift knob, black headliner, leather covered steering wheel and the usual amenities such as rear defroster, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity.

Lexus NX 300 Black Line Special Edition
The 2020 Lexus NX 300 Black Line Special Edition gets the blacked-out treatment, including side mirror housings, fog-lamp housing and grille surround, but adds bronze-finished 18-inch wheels under colour-key over-fenders, as well as bronze stitching and ornamentation inside.

Building on the Premium Package, the Black Line comes in Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl or Matador Red Mica, adding a black headliner and bronze stitching on the seats, centre console, door trim, floor mats and key covers.
