Canada's 'Best New' vehicles for 2016 in nine categories
The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has announced its choices for "Best New" 2016 vehicles in nine different categories.

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) revealed its choices for "Best New" 2016 vehicles in nine different categories at a press conference held in Toronto. The winners were selected based on 1,911 individual test drives by more than 70 voting journalists at a week-long TestFest. More than 110,000 objective and subjective data points were collected and analyzed by KPMG to determine the final scores.

Best New Small Car: Honda Civic Sedan
The Honda Civic Sedan won Best New Small Car with a score of 709 points. It earned top scores in styling, appearance, ride comfort and handling.

Second Place - Best New Small Car
Volkswagen Jetta with 686 points was the second-place finisher in the class.

Third Place - Best New Small Car
Toyota Yaris with 668 points was the third place finisher in the class.

Best New Family Car: Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen
The Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen won Best New Family Car with a score of 693 points. It earned top scores in steering, handling & braking.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with 676 points was the second place finisher in the class.

Chevrolet Volt with 668 points was the third place finisher in the class.

Best New Sports / Performance (under $50,000): Volkswagen Golf R
The Volkswagen Golf R won Best New Sports / Performance (under $50,000) with a score of 701 points. It earned top scores in engine smoothness and refinement, acceleration and braking.

Mazda MX-5 with 676 points was the second place finisher in this class.
