June 2019 saw 845,971 vehicles recalled in Canada
Of the 845,971 vehicles recalled in Canada in June 2019 (affecting 63 models from 23 makes in 33 separate actions, General Motors accounted for 300,655 in a recall of its 2014-17 large trucks (Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevy Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL) for brake vacuum pump problem that could affect braking assist.

General Motors – 2 recalls affecting 459,895 vehicles
In addition to the over 300,000 trucks recalled in June 2019, GM also issued a recall for 2014-19 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups (159,240 in total) with a faulty rear defroster circuit in their sliding rear cab windows, which could cause the elements to smoke, melt or even catch fire.

Honda recalls 222,336 Acura and Honda models
Honda took the opportunity in June 2019 to add 222,336 models from Acura (2001-17 EL, ILX, MDX, RDX, TL and ZDX) and Honda (2001-12 Accord, Civic, CR-V, Element, Fit, Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline) to the Takata airbag recall that has affected millions of cars worldwide.

Ford – 4 recalls affecting 55,882 vehicles
In June 2019, Ford issued four separate recalls affecting a variety of vehicles, including 28,019 Explorers and Police Utility Interceptors from 2011-17 (rear suspension toe links that could break) and 12,211 Ford Flex, Taurus and Police Interceptors, as well as Lincoln MKS and MKT from 2009-17 for the same issue, 15,207 F-150s from 2013 (transmission could suddenly shift into 1st gear) and 445 Econolines and Chassis Cab variants from 2009-16 (transmission could lose connection to rear drive wheels).

Mazda – 2 recalls affecting 42,752 vehicles
Mazda’s two recalls in June 2019 affected 2018-19 CX-5s, Mazda3s and Mazda6s (42,662 in total) with a potential software glitch in the Powertrain Control Module that could cause the valve clearance adjuster to not work properly, and also 90 MX-5s from 2016 with improperly welded underbody panel brackets.

Volkswagen – 6 recalls affecting 34,795 vehicles
In June 2019, VW recalled models from its various divisions, including 2015-19 Audi A3, A3 e-tron, S3 and RS3 (20,703 in all) with a loose connection to the front airbag’s passenger detection system, 2003-10 Porsche Cayenne and 2010-16 Panamera (8,742 total) over a shifter than could detach from the transmission, 5,316 2019 VW Jettas over malfunctioning daytime running lights, 23 2019 Audi e-trons over water seepage into the high-voltage battery, five 2018 Audi Q5s where an airbag deployment could break the instrument panel structure, and six Porsche 911, GT2 and GT3 models from 2019-20 over a loose driveshaft to wheel connection.

Fiat Chrysler – 6 recalls affecting 12,999 vehicles
June 2019 saw two recalls for the Jeep Cherokee — one affecting 10,485 2014 models with a transmission that could unexpectedly shift into Neutral, and another for 2,298 2019 models with airbag sensors that might not properly detect a crash. FCA also recalled 106 2018 Jeep Wranglers with incorrectly labelled liftgate glass, 63 2019 HD Ram pickups with incorrectly fitted fuel lines, 42 2016-18 Maserati Granturismos with an electrical fault in the electronic airbag control unit, and five 2019 Ram 1500s with the wrong spare tire.

Nissan recalls 10,389 Titan pickups
In June 2019, Nissan recalled 2017-19 Titan pickups over a damaged alternator wiring harness that could short circuit.

BMW – 3 recalls affecting 5,336 vehicles
BMW issued recalls in June 2019 for 2016 X1 and 5 Series and 2016-17 Mini 5-door and Clubman (3,041 in all) over a non-cinching driver’s seatbelt, and a separate recall for one 2017 Rolls-Royce Ghost for the same issue, and 2,294 3 Series models from 2007-12 over a battery cable connection to the fuse box.

In June 2019, Kia recalled its new large SUV over a compliance label that could mistakenly list the wrong wheel sizes and tire inflation pressures.

Toyota – 2 recalls for 309 vehicles
In June 2019, Toyota recalled 284 2018-19 Prius Cs with an electric component fault that could lead to battery-charging problems, and 25 2014-19 Sienna minivan mobility conversions that may have incorrect fittings on the brake-line extensions.

Mercedes-Benz – 3 recalls for 179 vehicles
In June 2019, Mercedes-Benz recalled 115 AMG GT S models from 2015-16 over a driveshaft that could detach from the transmission, 63 GLEs from 2020 with a hole in the floor and one 2019 GLC over a damaged engine crankshaft.

Subaru recalls 161 Legacy sedans and Outback wagons
In June 2019, Subaru recalled 2019 Legacys and Outbacks over spot welds that may not have been properly applied to the duct below the cowl panel.

Ferrari recalls 62 models from 2016-18
And finally in June 2019, Ferrari recalled California T, 488 and F12 models over an electronic airbag control module that could be damaged by an electrical fault.

About a quarter-million vehicles recalled in May 2019
A total of 258,518 vehicles were recalled in Canada in May 2019, affecting 32 models from 17 makes in 26 separate actions. Fiat Chrysler accounted for 113,825 of the total number, with Ram pickups totalling 105,531 in four separate actions concerning all weight ratings (1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500) and various model years (2015-2020). Issues include a power tailgate that may come unlatched, a glitch in the airbag occupant detection module, and daytime running lights that either may not come on or burn too brightly. FCA also recalled 8,294 Chrysler Pacifica minivans from 2017-19 over a loose battery connection that could affect the engine stop/start system.

VW Group – 4 recalls affecting 78,352 vehicles
Volkswagen Group brands accounted for nearly 80,000 vehicles recalled in May 2019, with the biggest chunk coming from a recall of 2012-18 Passats and 2018-19 Atlas (51,987 vehicles in total) with non-regulation headlight adjustments. Audi issued three recalls — 2018-19 Q5 and SQ5 (22,222) with wheel arch trim that could come loose, 2016-18 Q3 (4,006) missing a turn-signal fail indicator, and 2019 A6 and A7 (137) with an incorrect brake reservoir cap.

Honda – 2 recalls affecting 26,314 cars
Included in Honda’s two recalls in May 2019, CR-Vs from 2019 (17,951) might have a steering wheel airbag module with sharp edges that could cause the airbag to not deploy in a crash or to have it deploy unexpectedly. Acura ILX sedan from 2016-18 (8,363) were also recalled for a front half-shaft that could detach.

Mazda – 3 recalls affecting 24,441 vehicles
In May 2019, Mazda issues two separate recalls affecting 2019 Mazda3s — 13,108 for improperly tightened wheel nuts and 10,905 with non-functioning passenger airbag and seatbelt status indicators. The company also recalled 2018 CX-9s (428) with a faulty wiring harness that could disable the airbag, turn signal and ignition systems.

Ford – 2 recalls affecting 10,541 vehicles
Ford’s two recalls in May 2019 affected 10,282 Fusion sedans from 2013-16 with a transmission shift cable that could detach from the 2.5-litre engine and prevent shifting, and also 259 2019 Ranger pickups with a similar problem resulting from a transmission shift cable bracket that could come loose.

Suzuki recalls 2,475 Kizashi sedans
In May 2019, Suzuki recalled Kizashis from 2010-13 to address an issue with the occupant classification system that could turn off the passenger front airbag even when an adult is sitting in the front passenger seat.

Jaguar Land Rover – 2 recalls affecting 1,833 vehicles
May 2019 brought two recalls from JLR — one affecting 1,455 Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports from 2016 that may have a driver’s seatbelt that may not cinch up as required, and one for 378 I-Pace models from 2019-20 with a faulty brake energy capture system that could cause a delay in vehicle braking.

BMW – 3 recalls affecting 673 vehicles
BMW issued three recalls in May 2019, with the largest affecting 552 cars from 2019-20 (2, 3 and 4 Series) with improperly assembled airbag modules, 120 X7s from 2019 with side curtain airbags that may not have been assembled properly, and one X5 with a missing windshield VIN label.

Karma recalled 44 2018 Revero sedans in May 2019 over a problem with the driver’s door whose assembly may not be up to Canadian regulations for side-impact protection.

In May 2019, Subaru recalled 10 Crosstrek crossovers from 2019 to deal with left rear door glass that may not be properly tempered.

In May 2019, GM recalled 8 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra pickups from 2019 over rear 3-quarter glass that may not be the right type.

Finally in April 2019, Mercedes-Benz wants to address a problem with a coupe 2019 C-Class 4-cylinder engine turbochargers that may have oil lines that may have been affixed using improper bolts.

Nearly 400,000 vehicles recalled in April 2019, about half Ford pickups
Ford F-Series pickups from model years 2015-19 accounted for nearly half of the 393,773 vehicles recalled in Canada over April 2019. The company recalled 196,269 Ford F-150s, F-250s, F-350s, F-450s in various configurations and ratings, due to an issue with connectors on the engine block heater cable may have been damaged when the trucks were serviced from a previous recall, could cause a short-circuit, causing wires to overheat or melt, which could result in a fire.

General Motors – 3 recalls affecting 50,819 vehicles
General Motors pickups also made the recall roll in April 2019, with 42,234 recalled in two separate actions —40,319 Chev Silverado and GMC Sierra HD turbodiesel models from 2017-19 over a potential engine block heater short circuit; and 1,915 light-duty 2019 Silverado/Sierra pickups over tri-fold tonneau bed covers that could break loose from the bed. The company also recalled 8,585 2017-19 Chevrolet Trax crossovers with poorly-welded joints in the front lower control arms.

Mazda – 2 recalls affecting 58,540 cars
Mazda recalled nearly 60,000 cars over April 2019, with the bulk being 51,682 Mazda3s from 2016-18 over an electrical malfunction that could cause windshield wipers to stop working. The company also recalled 6,858 Mazda6s from 2011-13 over a manufacturing defect that could cause the front cross member to rust out.

Fiat Chrysler – 4 recalls affecting 27,351 vehicles
In four separate recalls in April 2019, FCA recalled 20,117 Dodge Darts from 2013-16 over an automatic transmission shifter cable that could come loose affecting shifts, 6,886 2018-29 Ram 1500 4x4s over improperly-welded rear driveshafts, 305 2019 Dodge Chargers with incorrect or missing airbag warning levels, and 43 Fiat 500x and Jeep Renegade over an occupant-restraint controller glitch.

Toyota – 3 recalls affecting 17,655 vehicles
In April 2019, Toyota issued three recalls over airbag issues, with the largest one affecting the subcompact Yaris from 2015-17 (17,546) over corrosion of the in-door wiring for the side-impact airbag sensors; 96 2019 Sienna minivans were recalled over the passenger front door that may not have been built properly, affecting airbag sensors; and, 13 Lexus ES 350s from 2019 were recalled over an driver’s knee bag that may not be properly anchored.

Honda – 2 recalls affecting 16,374 vehicles
Honda recalled 16,374 vehicles in two actions in April 2019, with the largest one (9,834) affecting Acura MDX and TLX from 2018-19 and 2019 Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline over a manufacturing issue with the teeth in the engine timing belt; 6,540 Odysseys from 2018-19 were also recalled over battery issues that could affect the Transmission Control Module and cause the transmission to shift into Park while driving.

BMW – 3 recalls affecting 15,469 vehicles
Although BMW issued three recalls in April 2019, they were almost entirely lumped into fire risk overheated engine PCV valve heater affecting 6-cylinder 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4s from 2006. The company also recalled two X3 and X4 crossovers from 2019 over instrument-panel trim that could impede the deployment of airbags, and one 2018 i3 EV over electric motor electronics that could cause a loss of power.

Volkswagen – 3 recalls affecting 4,010 vehicles
Volkswagen issued three recalls in April 2019, almost evenly split between Porsche and Audi cars. 2,236 Porsche Panameras of all variants from 2011-16 were recalled over a potential water leak into the air-conditioner blower control unit; 1,758 Audi Q5/SQ5 crossovers from 2018-19 were recalled with potentially the wrong brake master cylinder installed; and, 16 2019 A6s were recalled to replace the instrument clusters that might have words instead of images (as dictated by Canadian regulations).

Hyundai recalls 2,053 Velosters
In April 2019, Hyundai recalled 2,053 Veloster coupes from 2019 over a driver’s door that could pop open in a crash.

Mercedes-Benz – 3 recalls affecting 1,602 vans
Mercedes-Benz issued three recalls for its vans in April 2019, with the largest one affecting 1,390 Metris models from 2016-17 over failing bolts meant to attach the power steering motor to the steering gear. The company also issued to recalls for the 2019 Sprinter — 205 might have a glitch that could prevent high-beams from being switched off, and seven might have a headlight range adjustment sensor that hasn’t been installed or calibrated properly.

Mitsubishi recalled 1,330 Mirage sedans
Mitsubishi recalled 2018-19 Mirage G4 sedans over an airbag control module that could interpret vibrations caused by severe road conditions, and/or driving on a flat tire, as a system fault and switch the airbags off.

Volvo recalled 909 S60 sedans
In April 2019, Volvo recalled about 900 S60 sedans from 2019 overly improperly tightened locking nuts on the rear suspension toe links, which could lead to the toe link detaching.

Jaguar recalled 816 F-Type sports cars
Jaguar recalled over 800 F-Types from model years 2014 and 2015 in April 2019 to deal with a glitch in the occupant classification system (OCS), which might lead to the passenger airbag not turning off the when an infant or child is seated in the passenger seat.

Subaru recalled 100 vehicles
In April 2019, Subaru recalled 100 Forester, Impreza, WRX/STI, Legacy, Outback and Tribeca models from 2008-14 over replacement ignition switches that could switch out of the “On” position while the vehicle is being driven.

Karma recalled 2 Reveros
Karma recalled two 2018 Revero sedans in April 2019 over a problem in the airbag control unit that could render the side-curtain airbags non-operative in a rollover.

McLaren adds 474 models to Takata airbag recall
Finally in April 2019, McLaren added 474 cars to the growing list of models recalled worldwide due to the Takata airbag issue that could cause the airbag deployment module to blow up and spray metal bits into the cabin. McLaren added 540, 570, 650S, 675LT, MP4-12C and P1 models from model years 2012-18.

800,000 vehicles recalled in March 2019; more than half from Hyundai Group
Hyundai Group vehicles accounted for more than half of the 785,369 vehicles recalled in March 2019. Of the monthly totals, 407,508 came from South Korea, with Hyundai badges vehicles accounting for 292,632, with an engine control module upgrade accounting for 255,370 vehicles (2011-18 Santa Fe Sport, Sonata and Tucson) plus 3,061 Velosters from 2013 in a separate software action; 2011-13 Tucsons (30,803) were also recalled to fix an oil pan seal; and 2018-19 Accent 5-door models (3,398) have rear-window hot spots from the defroster.

Kia – 4 recalls affecting 114,876 vehicles
The other main piece in the Hyundai Group’s March 2019 recalls, Kia, also saw Optima, Sorento and Sportage models (108,802) recalled over the engine control module upgrade in two recalls (one for model years 2011-13 and another for 2014-18); 760 of those same three models (2014-18) were also named in another action for faulty installation of a fuel pipe following an earlier warranty fix; and 5,314 Sedona minivans from 2015-18 were recalled over faulty wiring in the airbag system’s passenger detection.

Subaru – 135,814 vehicles recalled
Subaru recalled over 135,000 vehicles in March 2019 over an issue with the brake light switch, which could affect brake light illumination, starting the car, anti-lock braking, vehicle dynamics control and the Eyesight collision avoidance system. Affected are Forester, Impreza and WRX, and XV Crosstrek from 2008-17.

Honda recalled 116,857 vehicles in March 2019, with the biggest chunk of that being the addition of 83,977 Acura CL, EL, MDX and TL from 2003-06, and Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Element, Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline from 2001-10 to the Takata airbag recall (faulty airbag inflators that could rupture and spray shrapnel at passengers); 32,880 Acura MDXs from 2014-19 were also recalled over water seepage into the taillamps, which could cause a short.

Nissan – 2 recalls affecting 91,325 vehicles
In March 2019, Nissan issued two recalls over braking system issues. The larger one affected Qashqai and Rogue crossovers from 2017-18 (90,792 in total) over a false reading from an overhead sign that could trigger the Emergency Braking System; a second recall affected 533 Altimas from 2019 over a faulty brake light switch that could leave the lights on all the time and possibly allow the transmission to shift out of Park without depressing the brake pedal.

Volkswagen – 4 recalls affecting 15,733 vehicles
Volkswagen recalled a total of 15,733 vehicles in four actions in March 2019, with most of that total (15,579) being 2017-19 Golf, Jetta and Tiguan over rear coil springs that could break over time; 66 2019 Tiguans were also recalled over a compliance label that could list the wrong tire sizes and inflation pressures. Over at Porsche, 2018 Boxsters, Caymans and 911s (75 in total) were recalled over airbag sensors not properly attached to the chassis, and 13 Panameras from 2018 were recalled over a failing electronic control unit (ECU).

Suzuki recalls 9,772 vehicles
Suzuki hasn’t been in Canada since 2014, but in March 2019 recalled 9,772 Grand Vitaras and Kizashis from model years 2006-13 over an issue with the occupant detection for the airbag system, which might not properly recognize the size of the front passenger.

Fiat Chrysler – 6 recalls affecting 3,892 vehicles
In March 2019, FCA recalled a total of 3,892 vehicles, including 2,239 Chrysler Pacifica minivans from 2018 over a right-front lower control arm ball joint that could separate from the steering knuckle, 1,600 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio (2017-19) with an unresponsive adaptive cruise control, 32 2019 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Challenger and Charger with non-responsive instrument clusters, 11 2019 Jeep Cherokees with improperly tightened front seat mounts, 9 2019 Jeep Wranglers and Ram 1500s with poorly manufactured steering shafts, and one 2019 Ram 1500 with a loose battery connection that could start a fire.

Mercedes recalled 3,797 vehicles in March 2019, with the bulk concerning 2017-18 C-Class and E-Class (3,713) with front passenger seatbacks that may not properly latch in place. Other recalls affect 70 2019 A-Class over a faulty adaptive high-beam assist, 10 2019 Sprinter 2500/3500 with non-functioning rear fog lights, and 4 2018 GLAs whose centre rear seat top child-seat tether anchor may be covered.

Ferrari – 2 recalls affecting 343 cars
In March 2019, Ferrari issued a recall for 264 cars from 2017-19, including the 488, 812, LaFerrari and GTC4Lusso, concerning a manufacturing defect in the fuel vapour separator that could lead to a fuel leak; the 2017-19 GTC4Lusso was also recalled (79 in all) over a door-lock cable that could prevent the doors from being opened from the outside.

March 2019 saw Lexus recall 298 LS 500 and LS500h sedans from 2018 over tire sidewalls that could develop cracks.

In March 2019, General Motors recalled a couple dozen 2019 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain over a rear head rest bracket that could be improperly welded.

Volvo recalled a half dozen 2018-19 S90 sedans and XC60 SUVs in March 2019 over improperly attached front seat rails.

A quarter million vehicles recalled in February 2019; mostly Ford F-150
February 2019 finished up with 259,866 vehicles recalled in 23 separate actions that affected 28 models from 14 brands produced by eight companies. The biggest recall of the bunch involved 220,791 Ford F-150 pickups (2011-2013) — 85% of the total — due to a sensor problem that could cause the automatic transmission to unexpectedly downshift to first gear.

Ford – 4 recalls affecting 222,739 vehicles
In addition to the 220,000+ F-150 pickups recalled in February 2019, Ford also recalled 1,276 Lincoln Continental sedan (pictured) from 2017-2019 to deal with door latches that may not latch properly, 522 new Ford Rangers (2019) over a transmission that may not lock in Park when the car is switched off, and 2019 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKX and Navigators (150 vehicles in total) over an instrument cluster that may not light up on start-up.

FCA – 2 recalls affecting 23,049 vehicles
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued two recalls in February 2019 — 22,095 Ram 1500 pickups from 2019 were recalled to fix a problem with the adjustable pedals that could detach after they’re adjusted, and 954 Fiat 124 Spiders (2016-2019) were recalled over an automatic transmission that could downshift unexpectedly.

Volkswagen Group – 9 recalls affecting 5,511 vehicles
Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman (pictured) from 2017-19 (1,714 cars in total) were recalled over a fuel tank that could puncture, 2017-19 Porsche Cayennes and Panameras (1,224) may have a malfunctioning worn-brake-pad warning light and 2 of them might have a slow-to-appear rear camera image, 2018 Audi A3/RS3 (1,105) may have detaching rear seat head rests, 2019 VW Beetles (1,049) may have a malfunctioning brake force distribution system warning light, 2013-16 Audi A8/S8 (407) may have a fuel-line leak, seven 2019 Audi Q7 and Q8 and one Porsche Cayenne Turbo could have cracked front shock forks, and two 2019 VW Jettas may have incorrect driver airbags.

Nissan recalls 4,580 Nissan Leafs
In February 2019, Nissan recalled its Leaf electric hatchback from model years 2017-2019 over a relay in the brake system that may freeze, which would cause multiple brake warning lights to stay on and overly firm brake pedal feel that might affect braking distances.

GM – 2 recalls affecting 2,002 vehicles
General Motors issued two recalls in February 2019, with the largest affecting 2017 Cadillac ATS (pictured) and CTS sedans — a total of 1,507 cars — over a malfunction steering assist system that could switch itself off. The company also recalled 495 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups from 2016-2018 over a faulty fuel-tank sensor that could allow the tank to overfill, expand and contact the driveshaft, potentially leading to a puncture.

Mazda recalled 2016-2018 MX-5s in February 2019 due to its automatic transmission suddenly shifting down and forcing the rear wheels to destabilize the car.

BMW Group – 3 recalls affecting 612 vehicles
In February 2019, BMW recalled 592 X1s (pictured) from 2018-19 over faulty rear brake-light brackets that could cause the lights to fall off, 2019 X5s (11 in all) over improperly tightened bolts for the front seats and/or seatbelts, and nine 2019 Z4s over an accelerator pedal that could get stuck on a wiring harness.

Toyota recalled 20 2019 Camry Hybrids in February 2019 over a fuel filler pipe that may not be properly attached to the tank, potentially leading to a fuel spill.

The first month of 2019 saw 943,340 vehicles named in 22 separate recalls affecting 62 models from 21 makes belonging to 11 companies. Toyota - 376,282 vehicles recalled
Toyota vehicles accounted for nearly 40% of the monthly total, but they were all part of the Takata airbag recall involving propellant that could degrade over time, causing the inflator to rapture during airbag deployment and spray metal bits into the cabin. FCA – 3 recalls affecting 160,382 vehilces
In addition to the 79,000 vehicles caught up in the Takata recall (including the Jeep Wrangler), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) also recalled its Ram pickups in January 2019 in two separate steering-related recalls. The 2019 light duty Ram 1500 (18,682 trucks) might have a loose electrical connection for its steering assist, causing it to fail, and 62,700 heavy duty Ram 2500/3500 trucks may have a loose nut that could result in loss of steering control.

Ford – 4 recalls affecting 149,999 vehicles
Outside of the 149,615 vehicles added to the Takata airbag recall in January 2019, Ford also issued recalls for 13 2019 EcoSport crossovers over improperly-welded front seatbacks that could come loose in a crash, and 371 Lincoln Nautilus models from 2019 (pictured) over a software glitch that may not detect when the driver’s hands are off the steering wheel, and fail to sound an alert.

Subaru – 2 recalls affecting 107,419 vehicles
Subaru also added 102,110 vehicles to the Takata airbag recall roll, and issued another recall in January 2019 for 2018 BRZ coupes, Legacy sedans and Outback wagons (pictured), 5,309 vehicles in total, over a software glitch that may not fire up the centre display screen on start-up, meaning the rearview camera image would not be displayed when reversing.

Honda recalled 83,953 CR-Vs
In January 2019, Honda recalled its CR-V compact utility vehicles from model years 2007 through 2011 over rusting rear frames that could result in the trailing arm separating from the frame.

BMW adds 31,078 vehicles to the Takata recall
BMW added 31,078 of its vehicles to the Takata airbag recall list in January 2019, including 20,532 X5 and X6 utilities from 2007-14, 10,135 5 Series and X5s from 2001-04, and 411 X1s from 2012-14.

Volkswagen Group — 3 recalls affecting 18,206 vehicles
In addition to adding 9,527 to the Takata recall in January 2019, Volkswagen also recalled 8,631 Audi models (A6, A7, A8 and Q7) from 2015-18 over a fuel leak from one or both of their fuel-injection rails, and 48 Bentley Mulsannes (pictured) from 2012-18 over rear seat seatbelt mounting points.

Hyundai Group – 2 recalls affecting 10,080 vehicles
Hyundai issued to separate recalls over the same issue in January 2019, concerning a high-pressure fuel pipe that may have been improperly installed on the fuel-pump outlet and could result in a leak. The issue affects 7,500 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and Sonata from model years 2013-14, and 2,580 Kia Optima, Sorento and Sportage from 2011-14.

Tesla recalls 4,583 Model S sedans
In January 2019, Tesla added Model S sedans from model years 2014-16 to the Takata front-airbag recall that, by some estimates, has netted over a quarter of a million vehicles worldwide.

Ferrari recalls 1,031 models
The Takata recall also reeled in Ferrari models from 2014-18 in January 2019, including 458 coupes and roadsters, 488 coupes and roadsters, Californias, F12s, F60 and FF, and the GTC4 Lusso grand-tourer (pictured).

Jaguar Land Rover issues 2 recalls for 327 vehicles
JLR issued two separate recalls in January 2019 for 2019-model-year vehicles with an engine crankshaft pulley bolt that may have been manufactured improperly, causing it to crack and fail and resulting in engine failure. The issue affects 268 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Velar models, and Jaguar F-Pace, F-type and XJ vehicles.

169,835 vehicles recalled in Canada in Dec 2018
As 2018 came to a close, Transport Canada handled another 24 recalls affecting 34 models from 14 makes belonging to 8 companies or automotive groups. The numbers were skewed by 122,513 vehicles added to the Takata airbag recall, including 2002-03 Lexus SC 430, 2003-07 Pontiac Vibe, 2003-04 Toyota Corolla, Sequoia and Tundra, and 2010-17 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class, GLK and SLS (pictured). Daimler - 6 recalls affecting 110,077 cars
In addition to the 87,317 added to the Takata ranks, Mercedes-Benz December 2018 recalls included 2011-16 C-Class, CLS, E-Class, GLC, GLE, GLK, ML and S-Class (21,500 vehicles in total over corroded steering assist motor bolts), 2018 Maybach and S-Class (987; software that won’t detect driver’s hands off the wheel), 2018 GLC (148; faulty airbag control module), 2019 C-Class (123; parking brake software glitch), and two cars (C-Class and E-Class with faulty steering wheel/rack connection) from 2018.

General Motors – 4 recalls affecting 29,886
Almost the entire total of GM recalls in December 2018 was taken up by the 29,827 Pontiac Vibes added to the Takata recall roll, but other vehicles also experienced airbag woes. Also recalled were Chevrolet Malibu from 2010-11 (41 in total over excessive driver bag pressure) and Chev Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from 2019 (11; damaged passenger bag retainer ring); also, the 2019 Cadillac XTS (7) was recalled over loose seatbelt buckles.

Toyota – 4 recalls affecting 13,734 vehicles
In addition to the 5,369 vehicles added to the Takata airbag recall in December 2018, Toyota also issued recalls for 2008-19 Lexus LX 570 (4,789) over a damaged seatbelt tension sensor wire, 2018-19 Toyota Tacoma (2,603) for a defective brake master cylinder, and the 2019 Corolla over the torque converter in the continuously variable transmission.

Nissan – 2 recalls affecting 13,417 vehicles
In December 2018, Nissan recalled 7,493 Nissan Altimas (from model years 2015-17) concerning a rear door latch-lock cable whose routing could cause the door to unlatch when the window goes down, and 5,924 2009 Muranos with contaminated fluid in the brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).

Volkswagen Group – 4 recalls affecting 2,386 vehicles
The Volkswagen Group recalled 2,386 vehicles in December 2018, including one 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo over an engine software glitch. Other vehicles recalled included 2018 Volkswagen Golf R (1,436) and Audi A3 and TT (875) to address underhood fuel leaks, and 2015-16 Audi A6 and A7 (74) over a faulty auxiliary heater connection.

Maserati recalls 158 luxury sedans
In December 2018, Maserati recalled 158 Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans from model years 2014-15 over faulty fuel lines that could weep or leak fluid.

Ford recalled just 134 vehicles in December 2018, all of them Ford Focus models over a prematurely wearing clutch in the 6-speed manual transmission, when it’s paired with the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine.

Hyundai – 2 recalls affecting 43 vehicles
Only two models were recalled by Hyundai in December 2018 — the 2019 Veloster (24 cars) over faulty impact sensors for the airbag system, and 2018 Elantra GT (19 hatchbacks) over a faulty sunroof pinch sensor.

92,320 vehicles recalled in Canada in Nov 2018
November 2018 saw 22 recalls in Canada, affecting 92,320 vehicles — 46 nameplates from 15 brands. One of the largest came from Mercedes-Benz, in which 13,166 Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans from 2010-14 were scooped up in the Takata airbag recall (the degrading passenger airbag propellant may rupture the airbag casing and cause it to spray shrapnel into the cabin). The following slides show other manufacturer recalls from past months.

Including the 13,166 Sprinters swept up in the massive Takata airbag recall, Mercedes-Benz recalled 16,390 vehicles in November 2018, including 2,259 of the smaller Metris vans from 2016-17 to address a potential fuel hose leak. The 2018-19 C-Class was named in three separate recalls and the 2018-19 GLC-Class in two.

Subaru - 2 recalls affecting 33,324 cars
Subaru accounted for more than one-third of vehicles recalled over the month (33,324), including 14,160 Legacy and Outback models from 2018 over instrumentation and warnings that may not register low-fuel conditions, allowing the vehicles to run out of fuel. A second recall saw 19,164 BRZ, Impreza and XV Crosstrek models from 2012-14 recalled over a valve spring problem with the boxer engine.

Honda - 18,692 vehicles in two recalls
Honda recalled 18,692 vehicles in November 2018 in two separate recalls — 11,252 Odysseys from 2018 were recalled to fix sticky rear latch assemblies on the power sliding doors, which could cause a door not to close fully. Also, 7,440 Odysseys, HR-Vs and Acura MDXs from 2018-19 were recalled due to brake-fluid gas bubbles in brake lines, which may cause soft pedal-feel and reduced braking.

Volkswagen - 6 recalls affecting 16,406 vehicles
The Volkswagen Group recalled 16,406 vehicles in November 2018, with the bulk coming from a software glitch that may fail to warn the driver that the key is still in the ignition when exiting the vehicle, affecting 15,853 Atlas, Jetta and Tiguan models from 2018-19. Other recalls affected Audi A3, Q5, Q7 and RS3, Porsche Cayenne, Macan and Panamera E-Hybrid models, and Volkswagen Golf R and E-Golf.

Ford - 1,916 SUVs in two recalls
Ford recalled 1,916 SUVs over November 2018 — 1,900 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models from 2018 to address a second-row seat track missing one or both reinforcement brackets; and 16 Explorers also from 2018 over an improperly-assembled fuel pressure sensor that could cause a fuel leak.

Volvo - 1,461 vehicles recalled from 2017-19
Volvo recalled 1,461 models across pretty much its entire range in November 2018 to address a Telematics and Driver Support Systems software glitch that might prevent the automatic notification of emergency services in the event of a crash. Affected are S90, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC40, XC60 and XC90 from model years 2017-19.

FCA - 699 Alfa Romeo Giulias and 3 Ram 1500s
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recalled 702 vehicles in two recalls in November 2018 — 699 all-wheel drive Alfa Romeo Giulias from 2017-18 were recalled to fix a coolant-hose clamp that may wear through a brake fluid line, causing it to leak on the catalyst, potentially starting a fire; and three 2019 Ram 1500s might have a loose seat track sensor that could affect airbag deployment.

October saw 377 recalls in Canada, affecting 388,898 vehicles of 54 nameplates from 20 brands. The largest one concerned the Ford Focus (2012-18), with a fuel-system vacuum problem that could deform the cars’ plastic fuel tanks, potential leading to an engine stall situation. Other main recalls affected Mitsubishi (2008-17 Lancer Evolution and Lancer Sportback), Toyota (2010-14 Prius and Prius V; 2018-19 Avalon, Sequoia and Tundra) and Mini (2007-15 Clubman, Convertible, Coupe, Hatchback and Roadster). Also, Mazda added 84,956 (model years 2004-13) to the worldwide Takata airbag recall.

A total of 783,779 vehicles were flagged in 33 separate recalls in Canada over the month, affecting 60 nameplates from 17 brands. Nearly half that number came in a single Ford recall affecting 339,884 F-150 pickups from model years 2015 through 2018, to fix a problem with the front seatbelt pretensioners. Other large recalls were logged by Honda (2018 Accord and Insight), Mazda (2009-10 Mazda6) and GM (2015 Cadillac Escalade, Chev Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra and Yukon).

Although just 24 models assigned to 9 brands were affected, the 15 actions affected 344,348 vehicles over the month. The vast majority of that number (260,315) was for 2015-17 Ram pickups (1500, 2500 and 3500) with faulty tailgate latches. Other makes recalling models were Ford (Escape and Fusion), Volkswagen (Golf and Tiguans) in two separate recalls, and Audi (A6, A7, S6, S7 and RS7).

Forty models from 14 brands accounted for a total of 144,688 vehicles, with the biggest action affecting 65,559 Kias from 2010-13 (Forte and Forte Koup, Optima and Sedona) over non-deploying airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. Others recalled over the month included Nissan (2010-12 Versa) and Ferrari (2012-13 California, F12, FF and 458) in the ongoing Takata airbag recall, Lamborghini (2012-18 Aventador and for 2017 Centenario Roadster), Maserati (2018 Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte) and Porsche (2017-18 Panamera).

A total of 568,936 vehicles were recalled over the month (14 actions, affecting 30 models from 12 brands), the clear majority of those from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which recalled 490,000 models from 2014-18 (Chrysler 200, 300 and Pacifica, the Dodge Challenger, Charger, Durango and Journey, the Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, and Ram pickups) for a cruise control problem, and 4,350 Rams from 2013-18 (2500 and 3500) for a trailer hitch problem. Other noteworthy recalls affected 2011-15 Hyundai Sonata, and 2014-16 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Hardest hit were 51,742 Ford pickups (F-150, F-450 and F-550 from 2017 and 2018) to address an automatic transmission gear problem. Also of note, Audi 2013-15 models (A4, A5, A6, Allroad and Q5), 2008-09 Smart (Fortwo), 2015-17 Land Rover Discovery Sport and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan.

The month saw 15 recalls involving 24 models from 16 marques, for a total of 158,301 vehicles. The largest recall involved 62,323 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ (2017-18) with steering wheels that could come off. Other large recalls involved 2009-12 Ram 1500 pickups, 2014-15 Honda Odysseys, 2016-18 Mercedes-Benz GLC, and 2010-17 Chev Equinox and GMC Terrain.

There were 15 recalls issued over the month, involving 109,434 vehicles made up of 23 models from 12 marques. Ram pickups from 2017-18 (41,903 in total) may have a faulty transmission interlock, and a similar issue affected 2017 Dodge Caravan and Jeep Wrangler. Other large recalls were issued for Mitsubishi RVR (2011-16), Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport (2018), and Toyota Sequoia and Tundra (2018).
